Eastern Sierra Trip 2009

Day 10 of 10

Sunday, July 5th
Drive home

It was noticeably warmer overnight, and nice and sunny as we packed in the morning. Almost everyone in the campground was packing up to leave. If you want a sure-fire way to get a site at a first-come, first-served campground, just arrive on a Sunday morning.

We left camp around 9:50am, then drove west on Tioga Road through Yosemite. Traffic was fine until we hit a massive backup at the left turn at the intersection with Highway 108. The backup started over a mile from the stop sign and added about 25 minutes to our already long drive. There were further delays along the way, creating a total of about 75 minutes of delay to the trip back to the Bay Area. At least the stretch of highway past Tracy is now 3 lanes the whole way, which helped there. That was always a guaranteed backup but now it's better.

Oh, I should mention that we stopped at this great fruit stand near Escalon on the way back, but I don't remember the name. Across the street from Gico Valley Farms, a bit closer to Highway 99. If I figure out the name, I'll add it here later.
