Eastern Sierra Trip Winter 2010

Day 2 of 5

Thursday, February 18th
Rock Creek

In the morning we awoke to clear skies and bright snow-covered mountains outside our window. We got a late start, arriving (after a short drive) at Rock Creek to do a snowshoe hike around 11:30am.

After the hike, we tried to find some places for sledding at the Sno-Park. Unfortunately, there weren't many good places. The places close to the parking lot aren't steep enough. There are places further out, but in addition to being a bit far away they also required hiking in relatively deep snow. So, we could hike up using our snowshoes, but it's difficult to sled with snowshoes on. The kids enjoyed a few runs before we decided to call it a day. I will have to say that the Donner Summit Sno-Park was much better for sledding.
