Yellowstone/Grand Teton Trip

Day 8 of 11

Previous Day | Trip Home | Next Day

Friday, July 29th
Leigh Lake

For whatever reason, we ended up waking later in Grand Teton than we did in Yellowstone. It was probably because our site at Yellowstone didn't have much shade, meaning the bright morning sun quickly heated up our tent each morning there. Plus, it was just a noisier campground. Finally, it was also a bit cooler in Grand Teton than in Yellowstone, at least in the mornings.

After breakfast, we drove about 40 minutes south and hiked to Leigh Lake and Bearpaw Lake.

After the hike, we stopped at Colter Bay for some ice cream and groceries. We also visited the visitor center, picking up junior ranger booklets for the kids. We also stopped by the store and picked up some citronella candles to help with the mosquitoes. Then we returned to camp. After dinner, we walked down to the beach on the edge of Jackson Lake and threw rocks in the water (trying to avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes while doing so). Then we helped the kids with their junior ranger booklets by the campfire.
