Fly home

Ironically, this last day was the nicest day -- best weather in months said the cabin owner -- that we'd seen near Capitol Reef. We had a long drive ahead of us, though, so we couldn't enjoy it with a hike. Instead, we drove 3 1/2 hours back to the Salt Lake City airport. Along the way we enjoyed great views of the snow-capped Rocky Mountains.

The flight back was quick and uneventful. This is one of the few times, maybe the only time that I can remember, that I've seen Lake Tahoe from the air. It was clearly visible on the right, and the snow-covered Sierra Nevada was clearly visible on the left. I enjoyed the trip to Utah and I would definitely like to revisit Arches, which I think was the prettiest of the parks we visited. But the Sierras feel like home and are still my favorite place to visit.
