Day 1 of 4

Friday, June 30th
Drive to Cedar Grove

Jean and I left the Bay Area at 5pm. On a Friday. At the beginning of a 4-day weekend. So, as you can imagine, traffic sucked. Most of the traffic was over just past Morgan Hill, but by then the damage had been done. It took us almost 7 hours to get to Cedar Grove in Kings Canyon National Park.

Luckily, there were still campsites available. Lodgepole, and Dorst were full, but there was still space at Grant Grove and 40 sites available at Cedar Grove. Grant Grove is more centralized, but Cedar Grove is the nicer of the two, situated as it is in the canyon next to the Kings River. So we made the extra drive and ended up in almost the exact same camp site (in Moraine campground) that we'd been at the previous year.

There were still people up and about, no doubt late arrivals as well. We set up our tent tried to go to sleep, but our neighbors were up until 2:30am. They weren't particularly loud, but when you don't have any walls, any light or sound is bad.
